The Choral Connection – July 2010
ByWith just one concert, for the Association of Retired Federal Employees on May 6, the month of May was relatively relaxed for the Elks Chorus. We have continued with rehearsals however, in preparation for a busy July.
On June 5 the Chorus appeared on the capitol mall to help the Boy Scouts of America celebrate its centennial. Thanks to Jim Lindseth for inviting us to be a part of their historic observance.
In the spirit of involvement in other Elks activities, the Chorus sent two teams to participate in the Annual Elks/Jerome Distributing Golf Scramble at Riverwood Golf Course on June 5. Though we didn’t exactly blow away the rest of the field, the weather, the golf, the enthusiasm of the participants, the burgers and brats, and the camaraderie made for a great day.
Wednesday, June 9, found us in Hazen presenting a concert for their weekly Community Concert Series. We were enthusiastically received by the Hazenites in their beautiful downtown “pocket park.”
There will be no rest for the Chorus in July as we prepare for several events. We’re looking forward to the Lodge 1199 centennial banquet on July 15 at the Lodge.
Tuesday, July 20, you can hear us at our annual appearance at the Mandan Bandshell as a part of the Art in the Park program.
Our sights are set for Dickinson July 30-31, as we head for the State Elks Convention. We will be appearing with other musical units in the afternoon of July 30 and again at the Memorial Service on Saturday, July 31. We have once again been invited to provide pre-show entertainment at the Medora Musical on Friday, July 30.
We will be taking the month of August off for a much needed break from a very busy schedule.
